They call me Goldilocks
I had a fabulously awesome weekend at my JCCAM retreat with my church. I’ll write a bit up more but I think a post with pictures will be even better as a recap.
On my way up to the Sausalito, I drove by both Fort Mason and the Presidio and got a little nostalgic for my old stomping grounds. I have a gigantic soft spot for the military, seeing that I am a former Army brat. I do get a little sad when I drive by Fort Mason now, seeing how rapidly it’s declined since the military left the base. It used to be well kept, but now that maintenance is up to the individual homeowners and well, it’s definitely not the same. I used to run all over Fort Mason getting into all kinds of scrapes and troubles and near-death/injury experiences.
Le sigh.
It got me thinking though, how, as much as I enjoy living in San Francisco, I just don’t see myself moving back now. Sure, when I was fresh out of college I would have JUMPED at the chance of living in the city but now I just want more space. I’d love to eventually buy a house with a yard and with some defensible space, both of which are kind of hard to come by in the city. Even though rents have dropped a lot as of late, everything else is still expensive and I don’t want to have to worry about hoping to find parking near the house/apartment.
Sure, it would be nice to live in the city I work in but depending on where in the city we end up finding a place, it can still take just as long for me to make it home as it does now. I actually don’t mind making the trip across the bridge; it’s just the extra 20-30 minutes it takes from the Bart station to my house now that sometimes hurts.
That said the most important factor for me is proximity to church and grad school. At the moment, living somewhere in the East Bay is the best idea as it’s literally in the middle of the places I need to be at [work, church, and school].
Naturally, this will all need to be worked out with the bf. Hopefully we can hammer out a compromise on a suitable location for all involved parties. Guess we’ll have to wait and see what place we both end up falling for.
