Touch touch touch feel

There have been talks and rumors and rumors of rumors of my contemplating upgrading my current iPod to a fancy new iPod Touch. I’m still on the fence.

I keep going back and forth and back again on whether or not I should even think about upgrading. Here’s my issue. The cheapest Touch comes in at a staggering $229 for a pretty wimpy 8gb of storage space. While I’m barely at 30% capacity in my current 30gb iPod video [which is now “classic”] I’d either have to cut some of my music, which let’s be honest here, won’t be easy because I’m a bit of a “collector” so it’ll be difficult to cut anything. Even things I haven’t listened to for a while. Or I’ll have to get the next highest storable space. But at $299 for the 16gb Touch, I really need to make sure I’d use the thing.

My iPod plays music, video and can store pictures. And there’s a stopwatch function as well. If it does anything else, I have no clue to what it is or how to get it to do that. And right now the only thing my iPod does is play music because I didn’t want to shell out the cash to download movies in the correct format, especially not if I couldn’t just upload them like I do with my music. Why pay for a movie you own twice? My thoughts exactly. And I don’t see the need to carry my entire photo gallery on it either, so I don’t.

So this new Touch does the same things now with games and Internet. My concern is I don’t want to shell out all this money only to underutilize it all over. I have a DS [which I kind of want to upgrade to the new DSi] so my game needs are met there though I could play the Touch when my DS unexpectedly dies which is wont to do as I’m kind of cavalier when it comes to recharging it. But the Internet option sounds appealing. At least I’d have that.

But is having the Internet at my fingers worth $299? I’m not sure. What do I need to do all the time? It’s not like I constantly carry my iPod around with me but maybe I will now if I have access to games and the Internet. Especially since my current DS isn’t exactly purse friendly. Or at least, not to my small everyday purses.

I carry small purses to keep me from carrying a lot of stuff. The bag I use for work is filled with stuff I don’t exactly need but I put it in there because it fits. The smaller the bag, the choosier I get with its contents. It helps stem the herd.

But that is neither here nor there. Except it’s kind of there because if the Touch is slim enough I could conceivably tote that around more often than not. Hmm. But do I want to be THAT connected to the Internet? Do I even need to be that connected?

I just want to make sure I’d be using it to near its fullest potential. I just want to get my money’s worth. My iPod made its worth thanks to many cross-country flights. Sure beats trying to figure out which CDs I wanted to listen to and lugging those with me.

So where am I on the teeter-totter for the Touch? Still going back and forth. This is pretty much the opposite of progress.
