When it comes down to it, I’d rather have the cake

Everyday I wake up and wish it was a weekend so I can just sleep a wee bit longer.

And every night I stay a little later than I should be. Hmm. I believe we have identified the backup. But you try getting me off the computer to go to sleep. Because I can suddenly find a few extra things to do, like balance my checkbook.

I had a great weekend though. Oh how fabulous it was. I had a date night with Jacki scheduled as a birthday present [I know I was over a month late by then but that’s just how our schedules work out]. We’ve both been eagerly anticipating this since it’s been a long while since we last hung out just the two of us.

After we both strangely struggled with my hair [though admittedly, mine would not stay curled because I had just washed it early in the day] we made our way to downtown Sacramento in hopes of finding a decent parking spot. Because parking in that area is a full-contact sport.

We circled around for a little bit before finding a spot only to watch it get snapped up by someone else. But wouldn’t you know we ended up finding one that was right across the street from the restaurant we were going to? Score.

Anywho, we had dinner at Paesanos in Midtown and it was so delicious! Jacki had given me a list of restaurants she was interested in going to Paesanos menu definitely stood out. There were several items I could have eaten and honestly, I think we would have been just fine with any of our choices.

Plus the food came out hot. As in, still steaming! It was awesome, especially when you stirred it up and got the rest of the cheese to melt into the dish. Oh, it was heaven. In a bowl. With garlic bread on the side.

Since the weather was still awesomely nice, we walked around downtown just talking and taking in the sights. We were thinking of getting a post-meal/pre-dessert drink but eventually just decided to get dessert. We didn’t really find a place we wanted to have a drink at and when push comes to shove, we really just wanted dessert.

Which led us to Rick’s Dessert Diner. It’s this tiny little diner on K Street with two display cases worth of cakes, cheesecakes, tortes and pastries. It was packed by the time we sauntered in but we did run into Vattey who was out with another friend of hers, which was fantastic because she was able to score a booth for us to sit at AND we all got to sample each other’s desserts. MMM. So good.

The “Death by Chocolate” cake I had was so deliciously dense. Ahh, it was exactly what the doctor probably would have ordered for me if he were in the business of prescribing baked goods as treatment.

But it was such a good time. I can’t wait to do that again. These are two places I’d definitely go back to again and again. And again.

Sunday was another lowkey affair. It rained and I wished I didn’t have to trek back outside to go to a group meeting but alas I did. Thankfully it didn’t take too long and I was soon back home. Though I am a little bummed because we’re planning on bribing the class with pizza and I think we’re getting the pizza from Pizza Hut. Meaning I’m not eating pizza. Boo urns. At least I can stand to be in the same room as a Pizza Hut pizza.

But that also means I still have to buy dinner. Unacceptable!

Oh well, that’s the way the cookie crumbles.

Speaking of which, I uploaded the pictures of my cupcakes I made last weekend. Hopefully I’ll get to write up a quick blurb about them this week! They looked fabulous.
