Round and round we go again

My dreams of blueberry muffins this weekend came true. I took a couple of pictures but they don’t do the muffins any justice and since I didn’t cook dinner this weekend I’ll just do a write up on them a little later. Beside, I still haven’t uploaded my pictures to the computer.

I really could use another day of the weekend, especially after waking up early this morning with an unruly stomach. Obviously there was only one way to fix that. Ugh. I’m still a little iffy but wouldn’t you know I still came in to work today? I know, huh? I’m such a rule follower. I know the bf probably would have made me stay home had he been here and that would have been nice. Maybe he would have even given me a back massage because now my back is all tweaking out on me. But hopefully I’ll be able to last most of the day. I skipped breakfast since the thought of being in the kitchen grossed me out [even dry toast!] so I’m currently sipping on my tea at work since that was the only thing that didn’t gross me out. Well, besides the idea of having oatmeal and a banana which I ended up putting together for my lunch, should that still sound appetizing.

Anywho, enough about my early morning gastronomical challenges. Let’s move on to more pleasant topics. Like the weekend. It was actually quite enjoyable. I made my blueberry muffins [more on that later] and finally got my hair done. Oh the joy of being able to scratch my head after nearly three weeks of rubbing it before getting my hair relaxed [that needed to be done in like, THE worst way possible. Seriously, it was all fuzzy and sad. But now my hair is looking fabulous and just in time for my next haircut next month. I can’t believe how long my hair has gotten since I got it trimmed back in December. Seriously, I walked by a window and caught my reflection and I was SHOCKED.

I met up with some Kayli, Korede, Tikia and Denita for a little Girl’s Night Out that night. We ended up waiting for over an hour for a table at the Olive Garden but thankfully it didn’t seem that long, what with our random conversations and then the free appetizers the restaurant was handing out to all of us who strangely decided to head out on one of the busiest days in the restaurant business. But it was totally worth the confusion and waiting because we had a blast. The plan was to have dinner and then go bowling but that was cut from the evening since we found out there would be an hour wait to bowl. Seriously! On Valentine’s Day. Who knew?!

Since I had a date scheduled with the bf, I would have had to bail on bowling anyway if they had decided to wait. I will endlessly be grateful that we finally got on board with the Skype video chats. I love being able to see the bf while we’re talking but I’m looking forward to when we won’t need Skype at all. I did get a lot wistful this weekend that I won’t go into here.

Just as cool as the other side of the pillow…

My study weekend didn’t quite materialize the way I had envisioned but at least it happened. Kind of. It started well. After a slow start. Remember how I just knew I’d but up by 8:30 on Saturday? It was going well until I rolled over in bed and saw that it was actually 9:45 am! I hardly ever sleep in like that when I’m at home [and again rarely even when I’m on vacation – I’m up when my stomach’s on empty which can be pretty early sometimes] so I was shocked. Even more so when I realized that I was in bed before midnight so I got way more than my eight hours. I guess I was either really tired from the week or I was enjoying the fact that the nephew wasn’t there. Oh it was so quiet the entire weekend.

Anywho, I made breakfast [warmed up a pizza] and was settled down studying by 10am [while the pizza was in the oven…see, I was being smart]. I was on a bit of a roll, especially since that book of GMAT math questions had a bit of a review section before so I wrote notes on that and then supplemented anything I didn’t quiet get with additional notes from other sources…well that was the intent at least. I got a good couple hours in before the parents came home and my mom made lunch and next thing I know I’m sitting on the couch with the deadly electric blanket and a mug of hot chocolate and then all of the sudden I’m taking a nap. And an hour later I was up and refreshed. I went back to work, though obviously halfheartedly and kept working on finding a Christmas present for the bf. I may have narrowed down the choices but I can’t remember what I got him last year. Why does it matter what I got him last year? Because I just want to see if I’m developing a pattern. I think I am. And if he reads this he may know what I’m planning on getting him. Unless I change my mind, but I probably won’t.

So the dancing. My dad was watching Fox News and I can’t stand that station and they were reporting on breaking news but had no real news to talk about so they just kept repeating things and made assumptions and was being melodramatic [a woman had gone missing and recently was found dead and the husband is the main suspect especially since there apparently has been a history of mysterious deaths surrounding his wives…she was wife #4. It's a mess of a story.] and I was annoyed that the family members would allow them into their home to talk to them and ask them stupid empty questions [and the family looked annoyed by the questions too!] and as I was getting annoyed I decided to play some music to drown out the crap being filtered into the room and started playing Daft Punk. And dancing in my chair. It was as dorky as it sounds, reminiscent of the Numa Numa kid except without the eyebrows. But darn if I didn’t have a kick butt time though. I was giggling and wriggling and bopping my head, knowing full well that I did not look even an 1/16th as cool as I thought in my head. D-O-R-K.

The bf and I watched Reign Over Me for our movie and I’m back in the movie-picking doghouse. Though I have to admit that even I found this movie boring. The disc I had apparently had some scratches on it so it just froze in my laptop [my dvd player has been acting funky so I can’t use it] and I wasn’t all that sad about it. Not a very good sign. So I need to be extra careful about what I pick for next weekend [we’re watching Clean this weekend]. Maybe I’ll finally bust out The Queen. He’ll probably hate me for that one but hey, it’s not a chick flick.

Sunday was the typical day. Pat couldn’t make it and I wasn’t hurt because I had amped myself for waffles anyway. Broke out my waffle maker and I think I may have gotten a little closer on the temperature thing. The day was quiet since my parents went down to see Tami and the kids so I had the whole house to myself. So I napped and putzed around for a bit and did no studying whatsoever. But I did figure out what I’m making for my gift baskets this year. Whoo-hoo they’re gonna be awesome. I saw them while I was trolling around Cost Plus because I plan on making risotto this weekend and wanted to find a small bottle of white wine since I don’t drink wine and happened upon it and thought how easy it would be to just make them myself and viola! an idea was formed. I’m just gonna bite the flavor ideas but whatever. I was super excited since I know where to find all the materials for this. I’m going to try out the gingerbread roll first and see how that comes out to see if I’ll be including that in them too. Ooooh I’m so excited. I want to make them now, but I won’t.

And I have to add my congratulations to my coworker E who just got engaged over the weekend. She told me this morning and her engagement ring is gorgeous…it’s an emerald and it’s so pretty! I love the engraving on the ring itself. I want a setting with some kind of engraving like that…it makes a ring so much more unique and prettier. Anywho, so we’ll be having lots of wedding planning discussions to come along. It was funny because she told our mail guy and then suddenly the entire office knew. I told her that once she starts getting the planning underway, she should just tell him the updates and he’ll tell everyone else, cutting down on the constant “so how’s the planning going?” questions.

Yay for them! I’m excited and now there’s been a good stream of folks stopping by her desk. Good times.

“Remember what Vince Lombardi said: If you lose, you’re out of the family…”

I think Roger Goodell got punkd. Here he is, last year and Tags decides to bequeath him the NFL, this golden egg of sporty goodness – the one league that everyone points to and says, this is what is right – and then, after all the tees have been crossed and the keys handed over and after you creep over the warranty time, ka-bloey! Everything blows up at once.

First you’ve got the whole Pac-Mac Jones and Tank Johnson messes, then some HGH crap and, lest you forget the whole Vick debacle and this is BEFORE the season even starts! And now, just one week in you’ve just had the biggest crap pile dropped on your desk when its relieved that the Patriots are just a bunch of cheaters.

On a side note, I’ve always called them cheaters but that’s only based on anecdotal evidence, i.e. the “tuck rule,” but you can’t hold that up to much salt because I also called the Ravens cheaters after they had Tony Siragusa SIT on Gannon’s shoulder.

But I digress. I’m actually finding this whole situation to be quite comical. Apparently it’s been something that’s been whispered about for years now and there’s been some pretty convincing visual evidence to it too. That just begs the question: if they were cheating, then why didn’t they win ALL of their games? I mean, would that have been too obvious? Did they purposely lose a couple games here and there so they wouldn’t blow their cover? And did they cheat at the Super Bowl? And where they that bad and that desperate that they had to cheat? I’m sure there are other teams out there doing the same thing and now that the NFL is onto one of them, they’ll probably cool it for a while or maybe even get smarter with their spying efforts. I can’t wait to see how this all plays out.

And I can’t help but think that somewhere Paul Tagilabue [I love his name…it rolls off your tongue. Like Isabella Rosselini] is somewhere, leaned back, shaking his head and thinking, “I got out just in time. Suckers!”

Anywho, so remember last week when I mentioned that I won 20 bucks? Well I can now happily announce congratulations to Steph and Tim on their engagement! Yay! She had txted me on that Saturday but since my phone was at the spa otherwise known as Verizon Wireless, I didn’t get it until an hour after the fact, which made me the last person to call back. But the funny thing was the first thing she said to me was “I owe you” because sometime last year we had made a bet on who would get engaged first, me and the bf or her and Tim [I bet on them and she bet on us]. She felt good because she was the one holding things up and I felt fantastic because our distance was holding us up. We made it official [I created a document for us to sign and she supplied the “notary” stickers [which were just round snowflake stickers but whatever] and the amount was the 20 bucks.

So when I called her, the first thing I said was where’s my money? We mentioned the bet a few times since we made it but stopped when Tim overheard us and we had to make some stupid thing up to distract him. I just never mentioned it to the bf until I told him that I won the bet.

I’m excited for another wedding though. I’ve always loved weddings, especially when I was single. Weird huh? I wonder how Hapa Jenny’s wedding plans are going. I should scoot on over and call her sometime. This should be a lot of fun.

Today’s lunch consists of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and by goodness I am excited about it. Sometimes after the all the complex recipes and fancy sandwiches all you want is a bowl of cereal and a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Though I have been craving some risotto lately. I’ve got to try making that sometime. That would be so good and then can you imagine all the possible spin off dishes I can make with that base? Roasted chicken and veggies, the shrimp and zucchini I had at Pasta Pomodoro that one time, spinach! The possibilities are endless.

And now I’m starving.
